Let your friends know where you are

While you are on your trip, keep in touch with your friends and family. Send text messages as they are cheaper. If something goes wrong they maybe able to initiate help for you.

Charge your stuff before you go

The night before you depart for your trip, don't forget to fully charge all your portable electrical items that you will take with you.

Check with your credit card company about insurance

If renting a car in a foreign country, check with your credit card company to see if they will insure you in that country. If not, then pay for the local insurance as it will be worth it in case you get in an accident.

Take small bills with you

It is always a good idea to take small bills with you when you travel. This will help you to take care of small purchases such as taxis, local buses, meals, etc.

Excercise on long flights

When flying on long flights, you should get up periodically and walk around the airplane cabin. This helps to keep your circulation going and avoid your feet from swelling.

Get a GPS when you rent a car internationally

If you rent a car in a foreign city, get a GPS with it... In some countries there may not be street names! Costa Rica is one example where many streets do not have their names posted.

Use texting internationally

When traveling internationally, if you do not already have international texting contact your mobile phone company before leaving home to have this turned on. It is much cheaper to text than to talk.
